Archiving one's Values
Wouldn't it be cool if you documented many different aspects of your life?
I don't mean private things, such as medical records, family/friends drama or when you went to the shitter… sharing these publicly is a VERY bad idea.
…so I guess maybe I should rephrase that.
What if you shared the things you've done and enjoyed with people? And I don't mean "hey, look at this, this is cool" kind of talk… I mean the kind where you go into detail as to what you liked and didn't like about a particular thing, or things you've been planning to do.
If people take great interest in you, I think they can learn a lot about you just by listening to stuff you're enthusiastic about.
This is kind of what I've been trying to do with Backloggery and video games, or these here blog posts for everyone to look at. I'm usually someone who struggles to express himself properly, so I instead go on "infodump" trips and start gushing about every minor detail that I notice or know about. It makes my autistic brain happy.
Not everyone's going to care, but hey, I do this for myself. For those that do care, they probably have a reason to anyway… maybe they're equally as autistic about something as I am, or I'm mutuals with them. Usually there's… not really another reason, honestly.
But to get back to the topic at hand, doing that kind of stuff is surprisingly draining. You have to sit down, think of something to log, then actually write it out… it can be enjoyable, no doubt, and it can also feel like work at the same time.
…though I suppose you could say that about any kind of hobby.
However, with "logging" in particular, things feel especially like a drag compared to other hobbies… is that just me? Maybe it's the fact that one's activities and opinions constantly change, so I'd want to keep everything as up-to-date and accurate to my thoughts as possible. Kind of like a chore that you keep coming back to, in a sense. And I'm not good with chores.
What I am good at is micromanaging. Perhaps this is also to my detriment, but I often just try to get the best efficiency out of something that I can when I'm playing video games. This is especially apparent with games that have survival elements or resource management - I try to unnecessarily hoard and min-max usage, even with materials that are abundant, such as Dirt in Minecraft. I just never throw that stuff out.
I guess I'm also keeping thoughts in my brain in a similar fashion, never to be seen by anyone else, and subsequently causing a mess in my brain. I was never good with diaries, for example. They get used by me for a week or two, maybe a month if I'm feeling particularly adventurous, and then they're stuck in my drawer forever. Maybe I won't even look at them again.
Then again, I also tend to treat everything else the same way. Curse you, attention span…
